Neurodiversity Celebration Week 2026 takes place from March 16th to 20th
It is Neurodiversity Celebration Week π
Neurodiversity Celebration Week 2026 takes place from March 16th to 20th, celebrating the strengths of neurodivergent individuals and promoting
inclusion across schools, workplaces, and communities.
Something we do not talk about enough?
How something as “everyday” as using a washroom can feel anything but simple for neurodivergent individuals.
For people with sensory sensitivities, anxiety, autism or ADHD, washrooms can present real challenges:
π» Harsh lighting
π» Loud hand dryers
π» Strong smells
π» Unclear layouts or signage
π» Lack of privacy or predictability
What many see as routine… can feel overwhelming.
At the Loo of the Year Awards, we’re proud to be raising awareness of this and encouraging improvements across all sectors. Because great washroom design is not just about cleanliness, it is about inclusivity, dignity, and accessibility for everyone.
So how can we all help?
β¨ Consider softer lighting and reduce harsh glare
β¨ Offer alternatives to loud hand dryers (like paper towels)
β¨ Keep layouts simple, clear and well-signposted
β¨ Use neutral, low-fragrance cleaning products where possible
β¨ Create calm, consistent spaces that feel safe and predictable
Small changes can make a BIG difference.
By recognising and celebrating facilities that consider neurodiverse needs, we can help drive meaningful change, one washroom at a time.
Because when it comes to public spaces…
everyone deserves to feel comfortable answering nature’s call π«
