World book Day 5th March 2026

05 March 2026 08:01

πŸš½πŸ“š World Book Day Thoughts… Let us Talk Toilets!πŸš½πŸ“š
On World Book Day, children across the country dress up as wizards, superheroes and magical creatures.
I would however, be very surprised if many turned up as The Marvellous Max from Potty Saves the Day… or as a character from a book about toilets, their invention, or how they work today.
Why is that?
Because even though toilets are something every single one of us uses, every single day… we still treat them as a taboo subject.
And yet, toilets are about so much more than we give them credit for.
Independence (just ask any parent going through potty training!)
Dignity
Health
Accessibility
Confidence
Inclusion
Books like Potty Saves the Day help toddlers and parents navigate potty training in a fun, positive way. They make something that can feel daunting… empowering.
So why do we stop talking about toilets once we grow up?
Unfortunately, there are so many health conditions where access to clean, safe, high-quality toilets is not just a convenience, it is essential. And yet embarrassment and stigma still stop people from speaking up.
Here at the Loo of the Year Awards, we are passionate about raising awareness of the importance of high standards in washrooms away from home. Because good facilities are not a luxury, they are a basic need.
The more we normalise conversations about toilets…
The more barriers we break down.
The more inclusive our communities become.
Maybe one day, dressing up as a toilet superhero for World Book Day will not raise eyebrows at all πŸ˜‰πŸš½πŸ“š
After all… it is something we all have in common!
