Thank your Cleaner Day
Celebrating Thank Your Cleaner Day: Recognising the People Behind Our Washrooms
Thank Your Cleaner Day is an opportunity to recognise and celebrate the hardworking people who keep our washrooms clean, safe and welcoming every day.
Following our video celebrating the day, Charles and I were delighted to meet with Amelia Baker from Tork Essity, who kindly brought cakes to help us mark the occasion. It was a lovely way to recognise the people whose dedication makes such a difference to our everyday experiences.
We also had the pleasure of catching up with John Heritage from Carlisle Cleaning Services, winner of the Loo of the Year Awards Washroom Technician of the Year 2025, alongside Stewart Smith and two of their colleagues, at Westminster City Council’s Paddington Street Gardens public toilets.
It was fantastic to spend time with people who understand first-hand the importance of maintaining high standards and delivering excellent service. Cleaning teams and washroom technicians play a vital role in ensuring facilities are clean, hygienic, safe and welcoming for everyone who uses them.
Their work often happens behind the scenes, but its impact is felt by thousands of people every day. From maintaining cleanliness and hygiene to spotting issues and ensuring facilities are ready for the next visitor, their professionalism and attention to detail should never be taken for granted.
At Loo of the Year Awards, we believe that recognising the people behind our washrooms is just as important as celebrating the facilities themselves. High standards do not happen by accident; they are achieved through the commitment, skills and hard work of the people who maintain them.
A huge thank you to all cleaners, washroom technicians and facilities teams. Your work matters, and Thank Your Cleaner Day is a timely reminder that your contribution deserves recognition and appreciation every day of the year.
