National Inclusion Week 14th to 20th September

20 September 2026 22:28

πŸ’™National Inclusion Week – Building Trust, Navigating ChangeπŸ’™
For us at Loo of the Year Awards, inclusion is not just a word or a campaign. It is something we see, measure, talk about and work to improve every day.
A washroom is something that everyone should be able to use with dignity, independence and confidence, regardless of age, disability, health condition or individual needs.
That is why inclusion is firmly built into the work we do.
Through our 101 inspection criteria, we look beyond simply whether a washroom looks clean. We consider accessibility, baby changing, Changing Places, facilities for people with visible and hidden disabilities, signage, space, safety, usability and the overall experience for the people who need to use them. But we know that measuring standards is only part of the answer.
Over the years, we have worked with organisations and individuals to raise awareness, share knowledge and encourage change, from discussions around accessible and inclusive washrooms, Period Dignity and Changing Places, to working with charities, schools, industry organisations, facilities management professionals and businesses.
We have also brought these conversations into our events, awards and Bog Cast, giving people a platform to share experiences and help others understand why inclusive facilities matter.
And perhaps most importantly, we listen.
We listen to people who use these facilities. We listen to those who clean and maintain them. We listen to washroom technicians, facilities managers, businesses, charities and experts who all bring a different perspective.
Because trust is built by listening, understanding and then taking action.
Change does not always happen overnight. Sometimes it starts with something as simple as asking:
πŸ‘‰ Can everyone use this washroom safely and independently?
πŸ‘‰ What might prevent someone from using it?
πŸ‘‰ Have we considered needs that are not immediately visible?
πŸ‘‰ What could we do better?
Our role is to help organisations identify those opportunities and give them the knowledge and confidence to make improvements.
We believe that better washrooms create better experiences and that inclusion should be part of the standard, not an afterthought.
This National Inclusion Week, we are proud to continue Building Trust, Navigating Change and helping to make away-from-home washrooms more inclusive for everyone. πŸ’™
