Loo of the Year Awards: Nominations & Entries
Nomination
- Any type of ‘away from home’ toilet can be nominated into the competition, in any of the sixty separate Entry categories
- Anyone can nominate – staff, customers, visitors, managers, owners or contractors
- Nominations for the 2008 Loo of the Year Awards are now being received.
- Once a nomination has been received, the nominated establishment or authority will be advised and asked if they wish to submit a formal entry
Entry
Entries are now being received for the 2008 Loo of the Year Awards – our twenty first year.
The 2008 Loo of the Year Awards are being run in association with our new Headline Sponsor, Albany Washroom Solutions (www.albanyfacilities.com) with further sponsorship provided by Armitage Shanks (www.armitage-shanks.co.uk), The British Cleaning Council (www.britishcleaningcouncil.org), Help the Aged (www.helptheaged.org.uk) and Hydro Nova Europe (www.hydronovaeurope.com). The four national tourism bodies are also continuing to support this year’s Awards – Visit Britain, Visit Scotland, Visit Wales and The Northern Ireland Tourist Board.
Following a significant increase in the number of entries received in 2007, further developments have been introduced for 2008.
There are sixty separate entry categories for this year’s Awards scheme and there will be three additional UK Trophies awarded for:-
- FAMILY FRIENDLY FACILITIES – i.e. dedicated children’s toilets with adjacent parent facilities
- ADULT / OLDER CHILD CHANGING FACILITIES – in conjunction with the Changing Places campaign run by PAMIS / MENCAP – i.e. dedicated facilities containing a hoist and height adjustable changing bed.
- AGE FRIENDLY FACILITIES – in association with Help the Aged – one of our 2008 Sponsors.

One other important development to advise you about is that, after twenty years running and growing the annual Loo of the Year Awards, Richard Chisnell has handed over the day to day management of the Awards to me (Mike Bone) and I look forward to carrying on the good work he has so successfully sustained and to meeting all our participants in the months and years ahead. Richard will still be very much involved, as Chairman of the Awards and he will be providing support throughout this year’s scheme.
Entries can be submitted up until 31st July and, following individual inspections by our expanding team of authorised Inspectors, the UK National Awards Presentation Ceremony will take place on Friday 5th December at The National Motor Cycle Museum, near Birmingham. Please make a note of this date now.
